When was the last time you reached for a bottle of juice at the supermarket? Once synonymous with health, the juice category now grapples with sugar bans, shifting consumer perceptions, and rising ingredient costs due to environmental threats.
For Tetra Pak, the challenge was clear: How can juice stay relevant in a world where both supply chains and perceptions are shifting? What does it take to evolve juice beyond its current proposition and reclaim its place in the lives of consumers?
We saw an opportunity not just to reimagine juice - but to future-proof it, ensuring it thrives in a world driven by sustainability, innovation, and evolving consumer health needs.
What role will juice play in the lives of future consumers? To answer this, we combined cultural insight into emerging needs with advanced data science to uncover opportunities others might overlook.
By applying text processing and topic modelling, we analysed data from 118,000 F&B companies on Crunchbase, covering the entire value chain—from ingredient suppliers to innovative startups. This uncovered early signals of disruption, including climate-resilient ingredients, functional drink technologies, and sustainable packaging innovations.
The project resulted in 10 innovation platforms, forming a strategic roadmap for the future of juice.
We designed a 10-year roadmap to prepare the juice category to reclaim its throne with the consumers of tomorrow.
